MERQ Consultancy, contracted by Women in Global Health (WGH), to undertake the first of its kind research endeavour aimed at exploring the dynamics of gender integration within the supply chain workforce in Ethiopia. This comprehensive study is designed to uncover the key facilitators and obstacles to gender integration in this critical sector. Through meticulous research and analysis, the project aims to generate insightful findings that promise to significantly benefit all major stakeholders involved. Specifically, the results are expected to enable these stakeholders to compile and analyse gender-disaggregated data, thereby making well-informed decisions that promote gender mainstreaming in supply chain management (SCM).
The objectives of this project are multi-faceted and ambitious. One of the primary goals is to identify and understand the various factors that contribute to creating a supportive and positive work environment for women within supply chain agencies. Additionally, the research intends to suggest practical and effective interventions to improve gender integration, tackle the challenges that impede the career progression of female supply chain professionals, and ultimately help them ascend to leadership positions. By thoroughly examining the gender dynamics prevalent in the public supply chain sector, the project aims to produce evidence-based insights. These insights will then play a crucial role in guiding the refinement and implementation of policies geared towards enhancing gender integration.
MERQ has been entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out this critical assessment. The evaluation will take place across several key locations, including the Ethiopia Pharmaceutical Supply Services (EPSS), both at its central hub and its regional branches. The study will also extend to the Supply Chain-related departments of the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ethiopia Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Through this widespread and detailed assessment, MERQ and WGH aspire to contribute significantly to the advancement of gender equality and inclusivity within the supply chain management sector in Ethiopia.
